It is one of the most historically relevant palaces of Cetona, where on the 17th of July 1849 Giuseppe Garibaldi, fleeing from Rome to the North, was greeted by a cheering crowd and spent the night there, as guest of the Gonfaloniere Gigli, who in 1800 became the new owner of the Palace. A marble plaque on the façade commemorates this event.
